FAQ

  • I was in a car accident. Now what?

Get medical attention if necessary. When in doubt, get it checked out! Adrenaline can cover any immediate injuries, and some soft tissue injuries take days to show up. Be sure to tell your doctor about any injuries you may have and any pain you may be feeling. (It may be difficult to explain to a jury later on that you are in pain if you did not tell a doctor about it.)

Contact the Owen Law Firm. We will obtain a police report, if applicable, and send our investigator to take pictures of the accident scene and interview possible witnesses. Time is of the essence, so be sure to call as soon as possible. The Owen Law Firm makes house calls and hospital visits, so even if you are immobile, you can get the help you need. We will deal with the insurance companies so that you can focus on recuperating!

DO NOT: Give any statements, written, recorded, or oral, to anyone about your accident or injuries without first getting our approval. This is to ensure that the things you say will not be used against you later.

DO NOT: Talk about your case with anyone except this office and your doctors. Family members are fine, but just make sure that they don't inadvertently speak with the insurance company.

  • Do all cases have to go to trial before a judge or jury?

No. Most cases are settled prior to trial, having been resolved through other forms of dispute resolution, such as mediation and arbitration. Rest assured that we will not settle your case without your approval-but if your case does go to trial, Joe Owen has years of courtroom experience in both picking juries and trying cases.

  • How long will it take to complete my case?

As fast as possible, but also as BEST as possible. Those who promise 'quick settlements' on injury cases are doing their clients a disservice. Our job is to see that you get the best compensation for your injuries. And, since we don't get paid until you do, it is in our best interest to take care of your case as quickly and profitably as possible. Most of our cases are settled shortly after the client is released from the doctor's care.

  • How will I be kept informed of my case?

You will be actively involved in the preparation of your case and will know its status at all times. From time to time, information will be sent to you from our office, which will keep you informed of your case status. Feel free to call us at any time with any questions you may have. Since Joe Owen personally handles each case, you don't have to worry about being 'bounced around' within the firm by different lawyers.

  • Will my case be settled without my approval?

No. We will discuss valid settlement offers with you in every instance, and no settlement offer will be accepted without your approval.
